Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This reminds me of a conversation my wife had with her friend about husbands and their need to buy expensive stuff: "He doesn't just have to upgrade his stuff to whatever. It has to be the best or top of the line which is always more expensive!" They were ranting about our hobbies, mine of bikes and her friend's husband's of computers.

I'm going to switch to a compact crank and from the input from these forums and friends in the area I am going with the Shimano FC R700. It compliments the rest of my shimano parts and when the budget allows it'll allow me to upgrade my 9sp gruppo to a 10spd in the future. So I'm thinking ahead and want to buy trusted quality parts. What's wrong with that?! hehe!

Then again, I do this with all my hobbies... auto racing, golf, softball, etc... and now cycling.
