Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

what's in your cycling diet and confess what junk you are still eating!

I"m trying to be really good knowing I want to be in the best shape possible as I can and keep my bones and body strong so I can not only have a good season but cycle for a long time to come.

what's your 2 top food or drink you force yourself to be better at in your diet and add 2 confessions of certain food you indulge in knowing it's soooooo wrong but so good!

Milk- Dont care much for it but I drink it 3 times a day anyway.
Veggies- I try to be so much better about it, so far so good.

bad choices- I confess I love chocolate, everyday and not in moderation
I still love pepsi and I know I should stop. ( I have been drinking it in moderation lately)

Trying to make effort to make a diversified diet, if it was only of me, I'd be eating pasta and boiled chicken breast for every meals.

Beer and, once in a blue moon, poutine are my diet flaws.

Edit: Also, I've recently introduced cold cut oats in my diet, that stuff taste good! Takes forever to cook though, but it gives me time to do the house chores.

I have been eating a lot more brown rice and whole oats, as well as steamed veggies. My big weaknesses are chocolate and peanut butter ( I do get the organic kind, Maranatha brand. Nothing better.)

go to a health food store and get fresh PB (as in crushed peanuts, and that's it). it's tasty with honey on some good organic, wholemeal bread.

i usually eat them plain, with a beer, chillin' in front of the TV at 6:30ish, before i start making dinner.

that said, i make a mean salsa, and a killer guacamole (for this side of the atalntic at least).

I eat oatmeal for breakfast even though I detest it.

My weakness is Almonds.....by the fist full. Guess it could be worse. The hardest thing for me is just being a dad. The kids always want Pizza or BBQ. I make them eat nutritiously most of the time but I want them to be kids and have fun as well so when that happens I don't want to be a stick in the mud and I will have the pizza or the BBQ with them. Let's not even talk about the Chinese Buffet.

As a side effect of GB surgery I have to make a conscious effort to eat more protein. I no longer drink alcohol as its effects are now almost instantaneous, or sugar as it causes extreme gastric distress.

Bad thing is that I still like a carbonated beverage once in a while and I still eat pizza.

My overall diet is pretty good, I'm more attentive about my diet than even my training. My indulgence is pizza, but even that is toward the healthy side, wheat crust, with olive oil in place of sauce. I allow myself one piece of dark chocolate in the evenings, and I've completely cut out my 1st love, ice cream. I force myself to eat a lot broccoli for the calcium.

pizza in texas? whole wheat none the less... sorry dude, but where i come from that's not pizza, that's an open faced cheese sandwhich.

remember: in the US, the farther you get away from New Haven, CT the worse the pizza gets.

Since getting a bad report on my cholesterol a few months ago, I've gone on a pretty strict vegan diet. My wife is playing along (for now). Not sure in what ways it will be good or bad in terms of performance once the warmer weather kicks in and the miles start coming. Mostly keeping it to whole grains, and lots of veggies. My biggest diet problem though, is wine/beer. I just 'have' to have is pretty much daily. And I still just eat too much at each meal.

As Bill Mahr recently said "I'm sick of New Yorker's complaining about how they can't get any good pizza outside of NYC. You see after we pay rent we can afford real food so it doesn't matter!"

Look there is no really good food in Texas outside of BBQ. I make my own pizza at home.

that's cool, but someone should let Bill Maher know that NY pizza is inferior to new Haven pizza.

i recently have become a nutrion lable reader. i am trying to avoid processed foods and foods with all the added this and thats. whole grains, veggies, and fruit are my focus. i love going to Whole Foods or Trader Joes now!

deep dish chicago style pizza, REAL chocolate, and ice cream have been my enemy lately.

My cycling diet normally consists of:
Breakfast: Some type of whole grain wheat cereal with either soy or 1% milk
Lunch: Tuna sandwich on wheat made with fat free Miracle whip my own creation of spices
Dinner: Typically some variety of pasta dish with chicken. When I have money, I'll also have some spring mix lettuce with some nuts, some type of cheese, and a vinegar for dressing

Weaknesses: I'm a college guy, so I'll drink too much on occation. In addition, I have developed an addition for coffee. I'll have 20 or so oz. a day, although I typically drink it black, so at least it helps my metabolism. My other weakness is snaking on cereal when its not breakfast.

I eat cottage cheese after workouts / before dinner, I don't mind it, but its not a preferred food of mine.
I eat dry granola bars too for energy and althought they seem like they would suck, i knid of like those now.

My favorite thing now is chocolate milk after rides and turkey sandwiches for lunch, mmmmm turkey

He may already know, it was more of a comment about how much NY'ers ***** about everything that isn't NY yet live somewhere else. I worked with so many NY transplants when I was in L.A. and all they did was complain about the food, the night life the bars the people, yet never about the weather

Good:
Oatmeal at least 5 days a week.
Fruit
Bad:
For you Washingtonians (DC) - 5 Guys Bacon Burger w/ fries. I love/hate that they opened a franchise by my house.
Stupid Chinese Buffet that co-workers always want to go to.
Ugly:
Dropping $8 on Starbucks Lattes daily

At first I read your post and thought "GB surgery" meant gallbladder, and I was beginning to wonder what the hell they did in there to cause the symptoms you're describing... But now it makes sense.
