Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Poor widdew North Eastern boys getting Peter North'd by the snow? You don't have it bad.

It was 64 here today and I needed an easy ride to recover from yesterday's knock around ride. So I figured I would hit up the local climb (my personal favourite). Everything was fine until I turned down the road that leads to the base.

I'm pretty sure the snow on the side of the road has been there since 1974, so I didn't think anything of it.

Dumb. Here's the base of the climb.

Single lane roads are fine. Single lane roads submerged in water with snow on either side, not ok. It hasn't snowed here in three weeks and the roads looked like that.

Unhappy Cypress:

On the way home I threw down some wrath on the flats.

So anyways, your snow will be gone soon enough. It will be a good month or so before my local climb is clear, let alone the climbs in the mountains.

A little too snowy to ride on Saturday (about a foot), plus rain/sleet. But group ride tomorrow, and by the end of the week it will be 60F. You've inspired me to take my camera with me tomorrow.

"Peter North'd," lol.

Nary a ride goes by that I don't take a picture of something or hate myself for not bringing my camera.

I need to get a camera that doesn't have to get Peter North'd into my jersey pocket.

I've got a Pentax Optio W10. 6mp and waterproof-ish.

It can be carried in a jersey with no ziplock bag and enables me to take pictures like this:

Yeah, it's warm but not warm enough to not blow the nose every ten minutes.

Golfers have the best tan lines. They only wear one glove.
