Octalink
Any serious issues? Will I notice any big difference going from outboard BB to Octalink?

No issues.
Personally, I think the Ultegra octa-link BB is fantastic.

To clairfy a little. Notice I said Ultegra. The Ultegra (BB-6500) is known for being very durable. However, the DA BB with the carbon sleeve had some issues with durability.
That said. I use the Ultegra.

There's no carbon sleeve on my 7700 BB, just the usual plastic sleeve similar to what they put on the current outboard BBs. Are we talking the earlier rebuildable ones or the later sealed Dura Ace ones which can't be worked on? I've had great luck with mine. As a note, when you install an octalink crank make sure that the splines are engaged in the grooves on the crank, not on the bumps in there. I've seen a couple smart guys strip off part of the inside of the crank because of this.

I'm sorry , it is plastic. I kept thinking it was the Record for some reason. The Ultegra has the alloy sleeve.
For some reason, overall reviews of the DA BB's weren't quite as good as the Ultegras. I think in the end, they said it had something to do with the seals. This comes from a few sources, one being www.roadbikereview.com among others. Granted they work fine, but for some reason, they didn't last as long as the Ultegras, and required more frequent adjustments and maintenance.

I would have gotten Ultegra regardless, thanks all!

Ultegras are certainly easier to install. The DA one is tedious to get the tension just right since there is a lockring on both sides. It is smooth once its dialed though.

10 speed cranks with the external bearings experience less chain rub if that is important to you. I've got bikes with both and prefer the external but nothing wrong with octalink either. Let price be your guide.

I have run several Ultegra and DA BB. The Ultegra is the way to go, unless you enjoy doing service. If you do enjoy servicing your bike, buy the DA. Get a tube of high quality grease, learn how to adjust bearings, and feel the added smoothness.
That being said, my fiance's bike has the Ultegra, and this one BB is freakishly smooth. I have never seen anthing like it. Sometimes, you just get lucky.
