Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

More @#%* Snow II

Well just when you thought it was safe to come out and play...

Pushing 50 degrees today and mud season is getting underway....

2 - 4" of snow tonight...

Not that much but just enough to make tomorrow a trainer/roller day...

I will be taking the Frankenclimbing bike out today for about 40 miles...

It took 5 hours to clean it up from the last ride...

I don't think the roads are as wet but there is still a lot of salt and cinders and more to be put down tonight....

So I will not be taking the Record RS out for its maiden voyage...

Maybe June???

I'm not usually in favor of driving to the start of a ride, but I'd encourage it here.

more snow part 2 here too!
it's been muddy and wet but fairly nice, although I swore I lost an ear from the cold on my way back today.
more snow heading our way tonight!

It was sunny and beautiful this morning while my wife was horseback riding and I was driving the kids around....

Girl Scouts, gymnastics, food shopping...

By the time I got out the clouds had moved in and my ears and arms got quite cold as well...

But I did get 40 miles in....Second ride of the season....

I squeezed in a short 30 minute ride today (I was lucky to get that much). It was my first ride of the season, so I spent as much time as I could climbing up the hills in my town to shock my system back into the rhythm of things.

We'll see if it worked.

I knew why I loved Australia. Summer is too hot, but winter is sweet, no snow except certain mountain ranges, not many, and minimal rain for extended periods. Winter never gets below 0 or -3C lowest. Usually about 5-10C.

Thank goodness, that was a dud....

I was out until 1:30 last night and the roads were greasy...

I will hold off riding outside today (I don't want to clean another bike) but tomorrow looks good...

By stripping the bike down...Pulling the cranks, taking off the chain and cassette, taking apart the headset, just about everything except recabling...

I just got back and took some photos...

I was pretty much covered in a fine merangue of yellow pine pollen. Notice the stripes from my helmet vents...
