Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Campy Tire Fit???

I've got a new pair of Campy Zonda wheels. I love the ride. I hated the aggravation of getting the tires on - especially in comparison to the ease of getting them on and off my old OP wheels.

I do need new tires. I'm considering the Conti Attack/Force (though I have to admit to hating the decals ...and that that matters) Question is are there tires known to be better fit for Campy wheels?

I don't know if there are tires know to fit better than others but I DO know FOR SURE that the Attack Force combo isknow to be a b!tch to mount on Campy wheels. One thoungt for you is to first mount them on another wheel and inflate them for a few days...just like you would a tubular to stretch them out...then mount them on the Campy wheels...it will be much easier.

+1 to the mounting on different wheels for a while. Especially if you have those Mavic Open Pros still around which are a dream to mount wheels to in comparison. My Fulcrum 5's (made by Campagnolo) were a complete nightmare to mount my Rubino Pros to the first time around. Put the tires on my Open Pro wheels for a week, put 50mi on them, and then tried again. Still much harder than the Mavics, but they went on with some effort.

I just bought a set of Zondas and mounted a set of new Vittoria open corsas on them. They went on easy, tool free in fact.

Interesting, thanks for the tip. I am not entirely commited to the Conti's so I'd be open to suggestions about a better fitting good performing tire for these wheels. I tried a Vittoria Pro slick that I had in my closet and it wasn't any easier - but maybe that has to do with it being brand new, unstretched.

The larger rear wheel is a real pain!

Aren't they wire beaded? I've had trouble (relatively) with wire-beaded tires even on my OP's.

Nope...Vittoria Open Corsa CX is the way to go IMO. Clincher version of their great tubular tire...very supple and has kevlar beads. https://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=Y1062

i have some open corsa cx's due here tomorrow. i've always been a prorace2 fan (btw they mount easy enough on my zondas) but the open corsas sound like the only clincher that can compete with the pr2, AND they come in pimpin white.

To give you a warning though they are a bit more puncture prone than the PR2.

I've used PR2's exclusively for awhile now and I really feel they are not as puncture proof as they are said to be -then maybe I use misuse them as all purpose, year round riding. They get sliced up pretty good and I can count on routinely flatting.

I think I'm sold on the Open Corsa cx's for the stated ease of changing them with the Zonda's. Again, though aren't they wire beaded? I'd always had a hard time getting Vittoria Rubinos on because of the wire bead.

I have many pairs of Continental tires that I just don't run on my Campy rims because they fit too tight. I can get them on, but I really don't want the struggle should I flat on the road, and my club is waiting for me.

Michelins PR2's, Vittoria's and Stelvio's all mount easily on the Campy Eurus in comparison.
