Scattante on Ebay vs "Name" Brand

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Scattante on Ebay vs "Name" Brand

So, this bike is on Ebay - looks like it would be a good deal if it was a "name brand" bike. What do people think of these bikes ? Currently I'm riding a 20 year old Cannondale and haven't ridden any of these 21st century machines.

Scattante XRL AL/Carbon, Dura-Ace 10 sp, Ksyrium Elite
Easton EC90 Superlite Fork !! - Light Bike - NICE Item number: 280098105144

Bikes: Fast ones

Dura-ace, Easton, Ksyrium, 18.25 lbs?

Looks like a good buy, but I would hope the seller's scale is broken.

Could be a great deal for you as he has mistakenly listed it under "Mountain Bikes and Parts".

+1, I agree.

I don't know.. the XRL frames aren't that light. Neither are Ksyrium Elites. He's also got a heavy-ish seat on there.

OK ... so I'm pretty clueless .... is 18 lbs considered heavy or light ?

Light; but given the prestigious components, The Cypress was likely guessing that it should be even lighter. At any rate, it'll beat whatever you have now.

Light-ish. I would have expected less though. I've got 9 speed Ultegra with Cosmos (Heavy pos wheels) and my bike comes in at 18.

I ride a Scattante and absolutely love it. It's 105 equipped but I don't get caught up in the weight-weenie stuff....here's my thinking; I could spend alot more $$$ to shave off 3 or 4 lbs (and yes probably get a little smoother shift) or I could take care of myself and lose 5 lbs and save alot of money.

I still say go for it though, you'll definately notice a difference over what you're riding now.

The biggest problem with mail order bikes is that fitting is really hard. Even if you know exactly what frame dimensions and angles you want, more often than not, the seller's measurements will not be as accurate as you want.

True, and I have no doubt that I got lucky as far as fit is concerned....I think the trick is to find a good LBS who can tweak the fit during assembly. They will miss the sale but I've more than made up w/accessorizing and b/c of their customer service I bought my MTB from them.

My bike was "top of the line" back then, w/ Campy C-record, but now it looks like a tired old tank next to these new bikes !!
