Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

then you're in shape. Intervals suck at the beginning of the year, but are about as much fun as I can have on a bike after the first few weeks of build.

I love innervals. If I don't have time to ride lots of miles.....I do innervals.

It's only that last 10% of the interval duration that kills. So I try to go extra hard for that part.

Then you've realized they make you faster and you concentrate on improving speed and ignoring the pain.

other: have never done them, since i just started up with cycling about 1.5 months ago. i did them 2x a week as a distance runner (5x1200m early in the season to 20x200m closer to racing season). they GREATLY help running, so once i get some base cycling down, ill do some intervals.

i just started throwing some in after a couple months of base mileage. yesterday i did about 20 miles with half a dozen sprints thrown in the middle. almost threw up a couple times on the ride back home. i was zoned out all afternoon and my whole body kinda ached.
i figured today would be an easy recovery type ride, but interestingly i felt really good today and ended up doing about 45 miles before i had to head home.

Sure, but you're deranged.

I gotta say, I love that moment when I'm just about to have my brain shut down and the "Dead Elvis Grin" comes out. Just pedal towards the bright light...

Yeah. I love them afterwards. Although, the more I do them the closer I come to enjoying the "during."

They're painful, but the good kind. I love that kinda pain. The best is when you get so used to it that you flush it down the toilet and then go out for rides. Wait, that just sounds weird.
