What you write makes a lot of sense to many of us that have experimented with different seat posts.
Carbon on carbon simply seems to slip easier. Some will chime in with not having this experience but others will say they have had carbon posts slip on carbon fiber bikes. The reason I believe is two fold. Carbon has a lower coeficient of friction when used on material of like kind due to its high modulus...and with machined aluminum, light serrations can be added as with the Thomson that keep in place with less pinch collar tension. If you flip a Thomson post, the machine work is beautiful. There is an oval interior to the post. I has better fore/aft stiffness then lateral stiffness. This economizes weight. I believe the weight delta between CF and Aluminum posts is almost noise and aluminum is ultimately safer due to higher fracture resistance...the last point not being too important to CF lovers.

Please Karen I can tell you are slightly offended by your further criticism and that is not my intention by any means.
I ask that you accept our differences. The internet is full of all kinds of people like we discussed the other day. Statistically that means some are gonna bug you. Just ignore the ones that do and appreciate the ones that give you joy which afterall should be the purpose of coming here.

Thanks Brian. I am sorry it got out of hand as well. One of my biggest disappointments coming here is all the rancor. I have many interests and am an avid blogger and honestly I have never seen the amount of trolling on any message board as much as occurs here. I am a technical consultant in a number of capacities and have made many friends over the internet helping people but the community here is many times at odds. Remember the Harley thread that was an admitted hoax that set off such a firestorm of hate for motorcycle riders largely because of the stereotype of Harley riders? Most Harley riders I know would give you the shirt off their back...both men and women. Many come from all walks of life both professional and blue collar. There is no comparison to the level of civility and sense of comradery that exists on motorycle message boards compared to here. I believe it is because of many things. There is a huge age difference among members here for one thing..we all come from very diverse backgrounds of course and ride different brand bikes and just about anybody can own a bike. Also, cyclists are competitive by nature and don't like to back down.
In any event, some general musings. I wish you well bro and thanks again.
