One of these days I'll do one with a 25-30mph lead out sprint. Doing it from 0 takes a lot out of a guy.

branman1986 04-15-07 09:58 AM

best I can get is around 37.5ish. I wonder if higher altitude really makes a noticeable difference...

I'm guessing he got the 40.5 off his cyclometer, not off the car mph.

Ritterview 04-15-07 09:58 AM

Great job, but I sure wouldn't want to be riding right in front of a driver who is driving while videotaping at 40 mph.

VegaVixen 04-15-07 10:02 AM

I did a 43mph sprint yesterday.

mmkay. So I was "sprinting" downhill.

:p

I don't race and I'm a fairly middling rider. I have hit sprints in the 32mph - 35mph range at the end of a long ride on a fairly flat road near home (but then again I was a sprinter in high school). So maybe a 40 mph is easier for certain people? Sprinting is easy for me, endurance? I have very little to speak of and I cannot sustain speed over long distances. And I'm positive I'm not even a CAT 5 racer.

Now, of course over the next few weeks I am going to try and see how fast I can go after a good warmup :-)

This is key. Next time I do this, it'll be at the END of my ride.

Definitely. When I go riding my legs don't wake up until 30-45 minutes into the ride. Good video B.T.W

My max sprint speed was 36mph. Once again the usual Internet hyperbole kicks into overdrive. 40mph is well over 120rpm in a 50x12 and I pretty much never use my 12 these days.

I won't talk though... Last time I checked I sprint at 34

Agreed, but it was still a really cool video and i hope more people do the same. Had fun watching it! :)

That was a lot of work to prove nothing. LOL

That entertained me more than most of the drivel that comes out of Hollywood for millions of dollars.

I was disturbed by the fact that the person pacing you was trying to film you and the car's speedometer while driving.

I am glad there were no other cars around and I am glad you didn't have to stop/crash suddenly.:p

You can say that again. One guy posts a cool video, and 18 guys chime in about how easy it is (some facetious, some not).

A buddy of mine wants to go to a compact crank too, good to know 36 mph is still possible (with the motor spinning hard.

Ryan, we will be flying Cypress out to Michigan unless you call off the duel.

Are you still up for the challenge? What's your plan?

My speedometer shows about 4-5 miles higher than my actual speed. ..... According the those police department radar speed signs they set up along the road now & then. It said I was going 40, and my speedo showed almost 45. You have to factor in car tire size, tire pressure blah blah
