The 40 mph sprint. (video)

Because of the "Max Speed" thread, I decided to prove a point. This was done on cold legs (before my real ride), on the flattest road I could find. Note to you all: Don't do this on cold legs. It took about 45 minutes before my lower half felt normal again.

Highly unscientific. Nice video.

ratebeer 04-15-07 02:18 AM

Incorrect. It was over 400 watts.

TehArrow 04-15-07 02:26 AM

a max speed shot of a speedo would be a better proof... as cars are off like 5% and he wasn't riding with you.. he was chasing.. which means he could be accelerating towards you making you only have a 35-39 mph sprint which would make you a wussy. I won't talk though... Last time I checked I sprint at 34

jamiewilson3 04-15-07 05:59 AM

I am pretty sure that you went over to Europe to get this clip made, where the speedo's are all KPH. I have a friend with a mexican chevy truck, who could help you out if you want to go for 70 KPH without making the trip across the pond again. :)

galen_52657 04-15-07 06:10 AM

Lecterman 04-15-07 06:31 AM

Ryanf has wet the bed and cried to mama...

teterider 04-15-07 06:36 AM

Uh, ok. A 40 mph sprint is not that hard. Well, hard, but repeatable.

I'm pretty sure that was his point.

for whom?

stea1thviper 04-15-07 07:30 AM

my sprint watts/kg is upper cat3/lower cat2 and i max out at around 36mph on what i think is a fairly flat and windless stretch, starting from a dead stop. so, im going to say that an actual 40mph sprint is not as easy as some would think.

ElJamoquio 04-15-07 07:34 AM

Really funny - I loved the 'for wussy' part. Thanks.

jrennie 04-15-07 07:42 AM

I'm not as impressed by the sprint but the fact that he made a video of himself and didn't show his legs. :D

blonduathlongrl 04-15-07 07:45 AM

30 seconds to mars is one of my favorites, it goes so well with that clip!

dcbikeguy 04-15-07 07:47 AM

F-ing great clip.

NameGoesHere 04-15-07 07:49 AM

The earbud to the camera was a nice touch. :)

I've been riding regularly for 3-4 years now and consider myself a pretty strong rider. I still don't think I can sprint far above 30mph in calm air. With a tailwind....maybe.

Go_Fast 04-15-07 09:41 AM

thin mountain air = less drag.

;)

Ryanf 04-15-07 09:46 AM

Anybody can do 40 mph.
