WTB tights...suggestions for quality fit, materials, and comfort.
I want to find a quality pair of tights that I can use for cooler morning and evening rides. I don't need them to be super warm because I trade the road bike for a mountain bike in the winter. I have a pair of Pearl Izumi microsensor shorts and really like them and when I contacted them they said that their Gavia tight has the same chamois so that sounds interesting. Who else should I check into? Assos, Giordana....help me add to that list.
Thanks,
Mike

Get the tights without chamois.
That way, you don't need to wash them every ride, they last longer, and are cheaper. You still have the shorts underneath with a chamois you know that you like, and you can use the tights with any shorts that aren't waiting for the laundry. Just my 2 cents.
Also, I have the PI AmFib tights, but they are going to be significantly warmer than you will necessarily want. Great in real cold, windy and/or wet conditions but overkill for your needs.
Have you thought about a decent pair of legwarmers? That does me for the forties, and the thirties and under find me in the AmFibs with the windblocking front panel. YMMV.

In moderate weather (mid-40s to 70F), I prefer knickers or knee warmers to full tights. Knickers are usually better made than tights and fit more nicely.

Highly recommend the PI Therma Fleece tights- warm down to the 40's and comfy up to the 60's, no sweat! (heh!).
Fit well, have ankle zippers to get 'em on easier, and wear surprisingly well. They are a little slippier than the PI shorts lycra for some reason, but that's easy to deal with.
I like tights (vs. bib knicks or tights with chamois) for the reasons above: longer between washes.
Plus, they're a little warmer with a pair of shorts underneath, gives an extra layer to "Big Jim and the twins" on those colder rides.
