Commute to Work
In my efforts to reduce my carbon footprint, I'm mapping out a bike route to work. I live in Alexandria (it's really eastern Fairfax County) near I395 and Rt 236 and I work in Rockville right off of I270 and Shady Grove Road.
I would like to ride the whole way but that would be ~60 miles round-trip + crossing the Potomac somewhere. As a compromise, I decided that I could drive my Prius partway and commute on my bike the rest of the way. It seems that a good place to park is off of Macarthur Blvd near Old Angler's Inn and ride the test of the way.
Here is a route that I have mapped out using Toporoute (really cool tool!). It gives me ~11 miles one way.
Can any of you that ride out in Montgomery County please give me your impression of the route or recommend a different way? This seemed to be the most direct while keeping me mostly off of the major roads (I do get a little of Falls Road and Shady Grove).

I don't know the area at all....can't help there. But I do want to say it's terrific what you're doing. More people should just ride to work as much as possible. It's way easier than most people in the States think. Lack of imagination? Perhaps. And just plain fun. It's getting some play in before work. What a way to begin your day. Good luck and be careful out there.
