Hi, I'm ________, with the ________ University Cycling Team. We are looking for principal sponsors for the team for next season, and with your business' reputation and target customer we believe that we are the perfect match for each other, given the demographic for people spectating our sport. (Break down how this benefits their business now) Repeat this 1000 times per team member. Seen it done many a time in the SCCA World Challenge Series years back.
Seroiusly, no one is going to come up and ask to sponsor your team, that is, unless you are dominating the competition and garnering national media attention already.

I meant: I know that i have to ask a business to sponsor us.
I was merely inquiring about ideas on how to make sure that I do not sound immature, or inarticulate, when contacting companies.
