6'4" with 36" inseam. Can I get away with using a 56cm frame?

I need a new frame (stripped bottom bracket). LBS has a KHS Flight 700 on sale for $200 but its a 56 cm. Would this work for me or would it be too small? Any of you tall guys out there use a smaller frame and like it?

I'm 6'1" with 35.5" inseam, and I ride a 58. For your torso, on a 56, you'll be riding lots of seatpost AND lots of stem. I'll defer to others as to whether this is plausible or not, but it doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

I don't think there's a stem long enough to get you even close.

...also, KHS Flites have tiny head-tubes, so you'll be bending way over unless you put a million spacers under the stem. I built a friend's 56cm KHS which had something like an 11 or 12cm headtube!! It's the smallest headtube I've seen on a 56
I'm 6ft, and I've managed to ride a few 56s -- only just -- and I don't think I could go any smaller

another thing that's often overlooked when people try to cram onto smaller frames is that it's likely you could be hitting your knees on the bars when you're off the saddle unless you use a VERY long stem.

I'm 6'2 with a 32" inseam. I'm building a 56cm bike now to see how it goes. I have a 58cm Allez and it's a bit too big. Could likely use a shorter stem than my 120mm on it. I got shortish legs and a lot of torso. I'll see how it goes. The 56cm will be a comfort long ride road bike, not a racer.

FYI, KHS measures their frames from the center of the b/b to the TOP of the seat tube. This, in effect, makes THIS frame you are considering a 54 when compared to the manufacturers who measure from center of b/b to top of top tube. Im 5' 11" with a 31 inseam and I ride a 58 frame KHS. My other (2) road bikes are 55s measured from center b/b to top of top tube.
