Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Like An Expectant Father

All four of our kids were induced, so we knew the night before that the next day we would have a new addition to our family. Tonight I'm having that same giddy feeling we haven't had for a while in the nwduuffer household because tomorrow my LBS will deliver my new Torelli.

This is my first road bike -- I started out on a Trek Navigator in March, rode it through April and then have had my brother's Gran Sasso for the past two weeks. A week into it, I was hooked and ready to order one, and went down to the same LBS to get fitted for my own. I've been patiently waiting for him to finish the build as he had one or two to finish in front of mine, and finally broke down and called today.

He said "it's done, you can come and get it...OR....I could build some really cool black rim wheels to make it really pop." It looks just like this one:

Only a black seat, black components and black fenders (I do live in Oregon....) and some clipless pedals too -- so when he suggested the rims, how could I not let him make it pop? Delayed the delivery by a day, but he's working on it at home tonight to get it out the door tomorrow - what great service so far.

I can't believe I went from comfort bike to road bike in just two months, but I love being on this bike. I'm ultra giddy tonight...is this normal?

Yes. This is normal. If you want more evidence, just go check out the Patentcad/Zipp wheel thread.
You would thought someone just gave birth to their first child!

sorry patentcad, I couldn't help myself.

Back to you, mwduffer...in a year or two you will have at least 2-3 bikes and will be talking about how to get more. Be sure to save enough money to buy your wife something equally nice so she won't get mad about you spending more $$ on bike crap. This was the strategy of a friend of mine who wanted a new motorcycle and lots of gear...

Not just ultra giddy here, but ecstatic with the new addition. Happens to be fast asleep (at least for a full 10mins this time) in my lap as I type. Also explains why I'm posting at 4am.

Awesome. You only get one window with them at this age -- soak in as much of it as you can. Before long, they'll be throwing Lego grenades at your head.

Ok, well, we had a snafu with the delivery date today...one of the rims was bent, so they're having to rebuild one of the wheels before I can actually get my hands on it. I went ahead and snagged some pics in it's nearly completed state. So it still needs the clipless pedals, and black rims and tires, but here's a sneak peak:

Again, those are NOT my wheels and tires, just placeholders.

Here's the actual rim that's going on it.

Still hoping for today, but we'll see. If not today, it won't be until Monday...big ride tomorrow that the shop is in.
