Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Need a Cage that works!

I dont want an aluminum cage, but i do want something that will hold well. My carbon ones now suck big time and every bump i hit they slowly work themselves loose, im constantly pushing them back down. I just need something that will hold well. does the Forte Gamma Carbon Cage hold well??

thanks

I use the older Ascent cages from Nashbar, and they work great, even on very bumpy roads.

Proflie-Design "Kage". Can't beat 'em. Your bottle will never ever fall out, and they're cheap.
I've got about 10 of them

Honda Accord. Works quite well.

Oh wait, you didn't mean that kind of cage, right?

I use these:

The cage holds the bottles very securely. Unfortunately the tab at the bottom is quite prone to delamination.

Yes I know this rider didn't crash due to the loss of his bottles but he did crash due to the loss of bottles by otehr team riders in front.

I've never had any problems, but I guess I'm not flying over cobbles at 70kmh.
How is the design deficient, is there a story I can refer to ?

No real story...just pretty common knowledge (from what I have seen and heard from others anyway) that the Elite cages are far from the most secure. I run a different Elite cage on my Merckx but it is for looks and honestly they do such a poor job of actually holding the bottle that I am probably going to dump them in favor of something else.

Bottles fall out in races all the time. If they hold too tightly you'll whack into someone while you're struggling to wiggle your bottle loose.

At any rate, Tacx Tao carbon FTW.

I use Cateye bottle cages and can't fault them. They hold the bottle well, are rugged and are reasonable light.

+1 I use a similar nylon cage by Trek, have had them since the 80s and moved them from bike to bike. Love them.

$110 for bottle cages!!? if you like that I have a barely used fur lined sink that I'll sell you for a real deal. I also have an electric dog polisher that brings out a real shine in your pooch.

Holds bottle very well. Never even come cloase to losing a bottle so far in 1000 miles of use.

There are bottles of wine that cost hundreds, even thousands. I'd never buy those either, but it doesn't mean the people who do buy them are idiots.
