Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Post rain ride . . . what do I need to do

I am a cycle n00b and yesterday I did a 40 mile group ride in driving rain and wind. What do I need to do to my bike now? I cleaned it as much as I could - all frame and parts are now clean. I cleaned the chain using one of those Park cyclone things.

What else do I need to do? Lube what and where?

for starters, lube the chain. that's the thing with many kinks, that connects the cranks and cassette.

check your frame and rims for water inside, my bontrager wheels, and my synapse frame both fill up with almost a glass of water combined. If so, you may have to remove the seat and let it drain out the seat tube. For wheels popping off the tires and letting the wheels air out, or drain thru the valve hole if you have closed rims like mavic's.

Wipe any dirt off the chain rings and cassett that will turn into grim if you just ignore it and add lube.

Take sole insert's out of your shoes DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE DRYER! But do put some newspaper in your shoes to absorb the water out of them, leave in for a couple hours, then replace once or twice, this will greatly speed up the drying time for your shoes. Putting them out on a hot deck, or by a dehumidifier also helps.... or the dash of your car.

Don't overwipe bearings too, like at pedals, hubs, and BB, rubbing them to much trying to "clean" them can actualy push debris further into the bearing. Lose dirt will fall off of those area's on it's own as it dries, just remove any excess AROUND those area's.
