Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This looks like a Team replica, am I right? I know that quite a few were made in the Slurpie colors that were not actually team bikes. I've noticed most team bikes are generally NOT in such pristine condition, unless there are "backup bike" or other extenuating circumstances surrounding them.

Still, it's EVERYTHING 7-Eleven rode, so to me, it's a team bike.

If you're looking for alloy Campy, take a look at Glory Cycles selection from last year:
https://www.glorycycles.com/cagrse.html

I just bought an alloy Record crank, myself, and considered Centaur for some time before caving and going with SRAM Rival. Alloy Campy seems hard to find right now, and I'm just hacked off with Campy for the ugly plasticky carbon they've gone with. Looks like every other bit of trash on the market and would just NOT look right on my Cinelli or Pogliaghi. For me, if it's Campy, it's gotta be C-Record or before.

Glad you got it! Thanks for sharing; it's a beauty!

oooh, oooo, my big chance to post the "who wears short shorts?" picture

Isn't it funny how "what's correct" changes so much? 'Back in the day', the bottom of the bars were parallel with the top-tube, the hoods were low on the bars, and most riders rode a frame that wasn't 2 sizes too small for them

If you put modern parts on this bike you will take it out of its retro grouch or historical appeal, so they may as well be CF. I would leave these on and keep the mileage down using it only for special occasions, but thats just me.

Enjoy your ride - it is sweet.
I'm not exactly sure of the year (nor was the seller as it was bought by her dad, who has since passed). But I'm guessing it's model year '90. I've emailed the serial # to info@eddymerckx and a fellow BF member to find out. I'm willing to bet the groupset and wheels are original, but I'm not too sure if that can be proved either way.

Hah, no. To my knowledge it was never raced or owned by a "hot shot Slurpy".

Thanks for the link. Yeah, I'm thinking it's a team replica that rolled out of the shop in either '89 or '90 (but not this one made last year: https://www.competitivecyclist.com/za...RODUCT.ID=1842 )

Sean Yates used to cop ***** for pulling his shorts up like that, riding with his levers low and having his bars pointed backwards, and rightly so. He's still a beast though.

You have a great new ride. You're not sitting on "gold" however.

Change the tires...Maybe the rims and ride it like it is...

I'd change the wheelset (clinchers) and cassette, then ride it for a while. Eventually change out the group if you want to keep riding it cuz some of those parts are darn near irreplaceable.

I think that is a cassette on it now, not too many bikes have 8 speed freewheels. Also, I second the motion to get a new groupset, get some new Dura-Ace, that would look awesome. Also, I'm pretty sure that the rear spacing is 130 already.
