Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Helmet for a huge head....

Looking for a new helmet.. I curently use a Trek P.O.S.. It feels like a Like I'm wearing an ol' WWII army helmet.... any advise on this issue would be greatly appreciated.. I tried the Giro Eclipse and the Bell sweep. They felt like I had my head in a vise..... and that is without the pads... HELP!!!!!!

I had to try on about 5 or 6 helmets before I found one that fit properly. It seems like helmets are shaped differently, some are more rounded, others more oval. I ended up with a Briko Solo in whatever their largest size was. some of this is because I have curly hair too and it takes up space.

I bought it at performance but don't know if they still carry them in the stores. It's a nice looking helmet. About the opposite end of the spectrum from the WWII looking thing

The Specialized Decibel was one of the only helmets that would fit my melon. Figured...it was also the most expensive. Extremely light and comfortable.

Consenus is : Giro's are over-all well fitting and provide an effectively wide range of sizes; Bell helmets seem to fit the longer heads (for and aft) quite well.

I feel ya on the trek helmet, it's one of the few that actually fit but they give an extreme case of mushroom head. I'm about to give the kona ironman a try since the large is rated for my 63cm dome (yeah, I busted out the tape measure)

I've got a smaller dome-piece (57cm) but I like my Bell Furio, nice and light, cool, from what I see it's pretty cheap, and the locking mechanism is nice, reminds me of my $250+ welding helmet. But then again, I got the Furio for free so I can't complain about anything.

The Giro Atlas is designed for bigger heads -- I've wore one before I bought a Bell Furio. It was pretty comfortable, but it was too "melon-headed" for my taste.

Atlas sure is good. You can also try Trek Sonic as well.

+1 on the Decibel. Got mine this week and I'm in love already.

Now if only I could find skullcaps in bighead size...

I wear a large size helmet. I guess it really depends on the shape of your head. For me, Bell Sweep feels like a vice on each side of my head, Specialized Decibel feels like a chisel in the center of my head while another model (Aurora) feels great along with a Giro Pneumo.

Just try different helmets and see which one fits you best.

I hear they are revamping the Epcot Center - maybe you could use the old shell .

Edit - Oops - for some reason my picture of the Epcot Center won't load (I guess it's too big).
