Is this a scam?

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=290124632855

I am tempted (by the frame) to go for this. But checking the seller's feedback history, its nothing but vases, no bike stuff. Am i asking for trouble bidding on this? Any and all opinion/advice welcome.

No

DocRay 06-07-07 12:48 PM

No, bid and flip it.

gfrance 06-07-07 12:49 PM

seems right to me.

Looks OK to me too. The scammers usually put up hundreds of similar ads as soon as they hijack someone's account and this seller doesn't have anything else for sale, and he takes PayPal.

If you're interested in it then see if he responds to an e-mail.

"Full Dura Ace" would include the crank in my book though, and probably the wheels and pedals too.

1) Post thread asking about random auction
2) Shill your own auction
3) ... ?
4) profit!

The concept of 'full INSERT GROUP HERE' is a matter of debate. Always find out the specifics. To some it is brifters, derailers, and brakes. Some say that + Crank. Some say those + wheels.

No . is right, I can see your logic, honestly ,I find it MORE of a turn-off when sellers ARE really bike savy. For example,a Bianchi sold recently, celeste, what else, many are on e-bay lately. What made that bike different was the fact that it was partially disassembled, the seller, a company of sorts, storage or such admitted that he and his crew couldn't figure-out how to put it back together, " maybe something's missing ?" is what he stated in the ad. Many bidders, it sold for a lowish price. I don't buy Bianchis, but that one I thought differently about. For a change it wasn't some NYC smoothie, They're who I avoid ! Don't anybody freak-out on me now, I was and bred there !

Ask them if you can do local pickup. If they say "no", I'd be suspicious.

I don't think you'd make any money trying to flip this. I wouldn't pay more than $1000, then you've got shipping costs too.

indygreg 06-07-07 01:56 PM

A lot of very honest people will not allow local pickup.

If all the criteria is met to get paypal protection, then I think you are safe.

True.

But with a bike, shipping is a PIA. I sold a bike, and got lucky that a local guy bought it. I really didn't want the hassle of packing & shipping. I was HOPING for local pickup.

No, he means to flip the stem and race it.

Let me assure you I am not the seller. I almost didn't ask on BF because I didn't want to alert potential competitors to the auction. But its a lot of money for me to lay out, so I thought I would get some help. But think what you will.

And thanks to everyone who answered, its a big help. Now I just have to figure out if i can really afford it.

There is some decent wear on that bike, so I would say it is not a scam.

If you ride that size bike and want a really good deal watch for jamesm67 listings. I got a good deal from him.

powerglide 06-07-07 03:40 PM

Doesn't look like a scam...

"The frame was raced and trained on for about a year and a half, and has about 12,000 miles on it. This super stiff and light aluminum racing frame was handmade in the USA, and has been the choice of many top pros for years. The components are about 3 years old, "

12K miles/year on frame, 3 year old components (36Kmiles on components?) ...lots of wear probably
