Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

like an idiot, i put the screw in on an angle.

now, the hole where the screw goes is all @#$@ up and the screw will not
go in the hole. in fact the revit (or whatever the hell its called) turns.

any ideas? im assuming i can get a new revit (or whatever the hell they are called)

I'm not sure how you would take out an old Riv-nut but any good shop should have a few of those around and can pop one in. They might have to drill out the old one.

Edit:

I found a link on how to get one out, but you'll have the back end rattling around in your downtube or seattube. Hopefully your DT or ST has a vent hole large enough to shake it out of there.

If thats not possible, next option would be to leave the old one there, and drill two new holes and put in two new riv nuts. Or just one and drill your cages.

Seeing as the riv-nut is pooched, I would just thread the screw in as far as you can and see if you can wiggle the riv-nut assembly out.

That or try retapping it to a larger thread size or even a metric size that is larger than standard. I think extracting it would be easier.

The cheapest and surest course of action: contact Serotta.

Yes, there is a tool that will compress the riv-nut in place. The rivet nut works much like a wall mount screw anchor.

Once inserted the tool compresses (squashes) the nut in place, like below

Viper, you know way too much about the riv-nuts. Is there a story?

If it is not lose, a tap with the same threads that are in it may clean them up to where they will work.

Great graphics Viper!

Well, I must confess, I have used that tool and rivit nuts in many applications before. That and one of the rivit nuts came loose on my Tuscany. I tightened it up by threading a nut on a long bolt, threaded the assembly onto the loose riv-nut, then tighten down on the nut to recompress the rivnut. It's good and tight again.

Here a better perpsective of it.

I agree, if the riv-nut isn't too loose, you could try chasing it out with a tap.

I'm wondering about a riv-nut installation on a serotta titanium. I would assume the water bottles would have been brazed on bosses.
