Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Great Question.

I'd rather spend my money making sure I've got fresh halogen fluid.

I would only oil them when the parents are not around. They might find it odd to see you oiling those.

I think you've broken the bottom bracket area with your massive, preastoric Jan Ulrich guads. Go eat some water.

If a skewer is clicking, it's probably not tightened down enough. Besides a little grease on the threads you shouldn't need to lube anything.

Yes, I do grease my skewers' shaft very very lightly (and maybe once or twice a year). It was suggested to me by an old wrench as a way to keep rust off one's skewer shafts.

Bikes: Fast ones

Try oiling your tires and rims. That usually helps.

So is it a stupid question to ask at the LBS?

The only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

No, but you don't lube skewers.
