Why DON'T you race?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Part of me doesn't want to be "That Guy Who Wrecked Everybody."

Maybe someday when I can get a bit faster with the group rides so I don't completely embarrass myself in a real race.

And a Bent is real. Realy

Then again, I wouldn't call myself an ardent cyclist either, so maybe the question is not directed to me.
Its like you are describing my life here.

Tooling around the valley at 15 mph isn't all that painful. But yeah, it's less painful than being stuck in a gym getting my exercise.

You'd love racing in So Cal then. Most of the races are crits on a 1.1 mile flat course.

I was expecting someone to bring that up. I have several bikes including 2 bents. To be honest, I don't think bent miles count the same and some days (such as today), I purposely take a DF so that I will not enjoy that advantage. On the flats, rollers, or against a headwind, my highracer gives me a significant advantage. On the other hand, it's harder than a DF when sustained climbs are involved because the bike weighs a little more and I can't stand on the pedals.

All the same, I still don't like drafting because another human must pedal pretty fast for you to be able to attain the speeds that you do. At least with a bent, it's all about me and my bike -- the way God intended cycling to be

I do most of my miles solo, but I do some organized rides. Given a choice between drafting or not, I'll ride out in the open. However, I don't mind if people draft off me. I consider it a complement.
