My first build

My first build
My frame arrived today, 2006 Cannondale Caad 8 52cm.
I got the frame for $370 + 30 shipping.
frame is very light... weight is approximately 3.5lbs for the frame & fork according to my analog bathroom scale.

nice carbon fiber fork...

finally got the right size frame

the seller said that the head set was included... dose it look like correct? I thought that there would be some sort of bearing at the bottom of the head tube.

now Im just waiting for more of my components to arrive, all are NIB
1) Shimano 105 FC-5502 170mm 53/39 Octalink crank $48.99
2) Shimano 105 Cassette 9 speed 12X25 $28.28
3) Shimano Ultegra 9 speed chain $19.88
4) Shimano 105 break caliper set FT & Rear $38.50
^^ shipping for above items $24
5) 07' SHIMANO 105 Rear Derailleur RD-5600-SS $39.00
6) 2007 SHIMANO 105 FD-5600-B Front Derailleur 31.8mm $26.00
^^ shipping from Hong Kong $18.00
I think that I have done alright finding good prices, again all of the components are brand new in box (not take offs).
please voice your opinion on how im doing, and any advice on remaining parts needed.
Thanks

Headset is integrated, so the bearings are in the head tube at the top under the cap, and in the bottom where the fork comes out. If you slide the fork out, you'll see it.
Nice frame though, enjoy it! Post more pics when it's all built up.

I am not sure about the wheels yet. I will now start my research on different wheel sets.
I do know that they will be black aluminum, with silver nipples, and black aero spokes.
I would like to find a set of used wheels, that someone took off of their new bike before use. ( I don't need anything supper fancy, so hopefully someone that upgrades to those flashy Zipp wheels will sell me some nice stockers cheep.
Any suggestions on a good value wheel set. Bomb proof and looks are my primary concerns, weight is not a
super important factor. ( light weight = *expensive*, right?)
This beauty is my inspiration, i dont know who it belongs to, but mine will look very similar. Perhaps a bit flasher in the wheel department. I like the black wheels with the white script, but not quite as pimped out as a set of Spinergy.(sp?)

^^ this is not my bike, just the inspiration for the color scheme.

Campagnolo Khasmin (Khamsin?), they look awesome, but are bit on the heavy side, but they are regarded as bomb proof in Bicycling magazine.
Edit: You can pick up a set for really cheap. Just look around the internet.

forgot to add that I have to mess up the stealthy blk/silver/wht with my bright red Look Keo sprint clipless pedals....
I bought them for my RED schwinn super sport b4 I knew that i was going to buy/build the black caad.
The pedals are awesome looking and work very well, so I refuse to take the huge loss of selling them, and then buying the black ones.
So my wheels may have a little red on them to help sort out the pedals.... (Im sooo OCP)

well i was feeling pretty great about my build, and all of my new components off ebay...
but It looks like I have a problem already...
https://myworld.ebay.com/zursters
2 days ago his feedback said that he was a power seller with 46,000 + transactions 99.1% positive.
I log on today, and now all of a sudden he's *no longer a regiserted member* WTF dose that mean...
he got paid through pay pal, but I have to wait 10 days before I can even file a claim that I didn't get my goods.
This certainly takes some of the joy out of *my great deals off ebay*
sorry for the whinning, but im feeling pretty raw at the moment.
I only spent $167 with this joker, but Im feeling pretty violated.

I'm guessing you'll be fine, doesn't look like he's flaked out on buyers other than the occasional gouging for shipping. I filed a claim a couple days back on a certified flake, but I'm only out $10. I hope everything turns out & you complete your bike on time. It looks like it will be nice.

Don't run the "2007 SHIMANO 105 FD-5600-B Front Derailleur" with the 9-speed chain. The spacing between the plates is narrower on the 10-speed FDs and you won't be able to get the shifting as good as it should be.

Here is one site with the Aksiums for $250.00: https://www.trisports.com/maakwhsi.html.
They are not too light, but should be bulletproof.

I have already purchased both, so I would rather swap out the chain, because it cost less than the FD.
ok I think that you are saying that i need to run a 10 speed chain, because my ft & rear derailers are new 07, which means that they are intended for a 10 speed, not the 9 speed.... gotcha!

Conversely, you should run a 10-speed drivetrain with a 9-speed crank because the wider spacing between the chain rings will cause the narrower chain to ride on top of the teeth for a few revolutions before dropping into the teath. Same goes for using 8-speed cranks with at 9-speed drivetrain. (I know this because it's happened to me.)

road racer-- great choice of frame. In the wake of my Pinarello's stint on the disabled list while it goes off to Calfee for repair, I picked up a CAAD8 and threw the F4:13's components on there. I took a ride yesterday and while it's not quite as sublime as the Pinarello, it's a great, great frame on a budget--a more than capable racing/fast riding machine.

I have seen quite a few on ebay... most are going for far too much money.
I usually go for the new in box items that have a good "buy it now" price & fair shipping.
I have been waiting for a set of new 105 brifters in the $150 range, but no more than $180. (I have been watching fools pay >$200 for a used set of 105 brifters....*crazyness*)
But I may buy some nib 07 Flightdeck Ultegras for $200 BIN
.Dr. Pete she's beautiful..
thanks for the compliment/encouragement. (sorry that i didn't return your pm
)are those Look Keo clipless pedals?... If so (and there in good shape) we should trade straight up... I have a set of bright red Keo sprints, that I bought when I had the red Schwinn( which I sold for what I paid for it, btw
)
