What is cadence?

Can someone explain to me what cadence is? I keep hearing about it as being something useful for training. Is it like having someone yodel a beat for you? BTW, I used to compete in the grand tours.

Oh, 'cadence'! I didn't recognize it in English...we only read French on the grand tours. Thanks for the tip.

Chip question
How do Low RPM's (60) differ from Fast RPM's(90) efficiencies speaking, if one was to produce equal power at those given cadences at a challenging intensity?

:D It is what the drums play between songs to keep everyone in step. Don't you know anything?:D

chipcom 06-20-07 12:47 PM

Well I haven't been in a grand tour for a couple of years, I can't keep up with all of these new-fangled words and concepts. I'm a shoe salesman, so I don't use cycling terminology much. Why are you people being so mean to me?

Well Al, cadence is an important racing tool, from cadence, advanced coaching and scientifical studies have taught me that the faster one pedals, the faster the bike goes. You heard it here first.

DrPete 06-20-07 12:55 PM

Cadence is a myth fabricated by the CIA, "big cycling," and J. Edgar Hoover in a conspiracy with Taiwanese magnet manufacturers.

Gee3 06-20-07 12:56 PM

Yup, cadence is basically RPM's... your tachometer, in car-speak. :)

The Trilateral Commission and the Stonecutters Union had a say in all that too FYI. The Freemasons...they sat that one out.

But you didn't hear that from me.

That's only because that's the name of the hot virgin in American Pie.

Since I'm a musician, I'll avoid naming my children Melody, Cadence, etc.

Cadence is a chick I dated in college. She dumped me because I wouldn't put out.
