Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

hello from spain

hello friends, this is my first message and my english language is very bad, then don't kill me!

in my country(madrid)there's a lot of bikes passion, but the city is incompatible with the road bike and the rail-bike is full of people without bike, then we have to drive 100 kilometers to found good places where to trainer whit the bicycle.

i consider that this forum is very good and i wait to can help us.

welcome!

i have yet to make it to Madrid, but i was in Barcelona last December (unfortunately w/o bike), but Barcelona looked great for riding with the hills right near the city.

and you should have tons of great options not too far away. how about the Sierrra Nevada? or the Pirrenies?

my bike club did a tour in the Sierra Nevada last fall and said it was awesome with maintained roads up to 2900m or something like that.

i know Spain has a great road cycling scene, but how is the mountain bikign there? (note: i just got back from 2 weeks of mountain biking in southern France and Italy - was awesome!)

I took the bikes to Spain ages ago. Cycling from the airport in Madrid was ... interesting, but the country was great.

Welcome to the forum Ostas!
Spanish bikes are very nice, Orbea who also now makes the Zeus bikes is a good company with a quality product.
I'm sure Beckham will help your boys to the La Liga title again this upcoming year!

lsr, with beckham we'll be more perfects! je je - zeus have a good relation quality/price but i'm love of the italian bikes and my bicycle:specialized allez and vitus 797

nofx, don't you think that more soccer stars don't give more spectacule? ...it said that real madrid is the best team of the world.beckham is very much image but zidane, raul, ronaldo aren't nice looking and they're very good players

Ok soccer is a little off topic here but: Beckham's 50 yard passes are incredible, he runs all day long, corners and free kicks are great, but some games he doesn't show up. I bet next season Raul will score more goals because of Becks. I'd take him over Zidane and especially Figo. What Madrid needs is someone like Jaap Stam to sure up that defence
I like players with character too, my favorite was Stuart Pearce (Psycho!).
