Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is it just a local group ride? Or a big event of some sort? Remember to watch out for the pump in the spokes.

EDIT...can you get a more reliable ride than last time?

My prediction: Mr. Jelly Belly will be out for a recovery/endurance ride, and you'll be struggling to hang on. You really don't appreciate how fast these guys are until you see them up close and personal.

Our weekly training series has 2 races running simultaneously, and a few weeks ago the guys from Jittery Joe's came out. I was riding pretty hard by my standards when a 4-man break of the JJ's boys passed us like we were standing still. Dudes are FAST. They completely ripped the legs off the fastest 1/2/3's in the local peloton that night.

Might want to lower your goals a bit, Ryan, or you'll be headed for some serious disappointment.

Nothing wrong with having high goals. Serious disappointment pursing them is what will show the boy's metal. He can either show that he has character and determination by using that disappointment to drive him to improve (and maybe be a bit more humble in the process), or he can use it as an excuse to quit and join the ranks of millions of other quitters with every excuse under the sun. Let's let the boy grow up in his own way and show us who he really is as he does.

Sorry for making a semi-serious post...I don't know what got into me.

My guess is if this pro rider turns a single pedal in anger and he tries to keep up.

A buddy of mine is a cat 1 and he was doing a race around North Carolina a couple of years ago. He said somehow he ended up in a break away with George Hincapie. He said he was dying just trying to hold his wheel and Hincapie was pretty much just having what seemed to be a nice leisurely ride. The difference between a pro and us mere mortals is amazing!

everytime you come back from a race withought winning it is the proof that you had high goals, obviously too high for what you could really do, but rarely does it ever stop any of us from going after it over and over again.
tis the dream that keeps us all going.

scary part chip, I like the serious side of you!

Yeah I heard some of the domestic teams were looking for some cat5 racers to add to their team. Maybe your time has finally come Ryan, that is awesome. Remember us BF weenies when you are soon tearing it up with the pros.

There were a lot of people this time and I guess it was a slower ride.

On the way back they went a little faster but still not fast. One guy then told me that there is a ride that starts in Onekama on friday and there would be someone from Jelly Belly. So now I'm going there on Friday. Once I drop pro rider Jelly Belly they will sign me up for there team. They will then pay for me to go race. I will dominate Cat 5 races and move up. I will turn pro in a few years. Then I will win the Tour De France.
This is like reading a blog that used to be brilliant and hilarious, but the author has run out of ideas and gotten stale.

Whoever you are, the whole Ryanf thing was funny at first, but now your posts are just hamfisted- crudely fake and boring.

I suggest you go on hiatus until you get your funny back- or maybe pass on the mantel to somebody who's not burned out on the whole concept...

Ryanf can be like the Dread Pirate Roberts from The Princess Bride- when one guy gets sick of doing it or loses his edge, he finds a successor...
