Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Myrtle Beach

Gonna be in Myrtle Beach next week. Can anyone provide any info on rides or routes in the area? I want to know if there are some good roads, or if I should just plan on taking the trainer.

Go to the SE Regional forums. There is a thread on Bikes-N-Gear, the local shop. They have a group ride every day.

Or google Bikes-N-Gear Myrtle Beach and give them a call.

You have three choices:

Flat and against the wind
Flat and with the wind
Flat with a crosswind

ok - so I am being a smart aleck.

At this time of year, daytime rides tend to be very warm and humid. You'll have to go a ways inland to avoid the traffic and stoplights and construction. No doubt the local riders can give you tips for better ride locations than tooling around in town. If you had dreams of a nice peaceful ride along a road with the beach off to your side, you will have to abandon them. Even if you go all the way down to Pawley's Island, there are lots of stops and traffic.

You need to be OFF ocean drive before 7 am or youll get hit.

For a better ride (less scenic) go farther inland to ride. I like riding OD but Im always done before 7 am.
