Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New bike first ride

I took my new Felt F30 out for a leisurely spin yesterday.

Verdict?

I'm keeping it!

Very nice. Looks like a very rideable set up.
You can flip it, lose the bag, and photoshop out the granny ring for a photo-op to appease the OCPs, but I believe it should be comfy and functional first. OCP be damned

Why the hell would you want to go riding (save for racing or i suppose pre-race training) without a saddle bag? It's so convienent to keep my spare, patch kit, tire levers, allen wrenchs, keys and cell phone in there. Aesthetics be damned, convenience and comfort take priority for me.

Oh...and that's a mighty fine looking whip. I've got a Felt F80 myself.

Fair enough. I suppose a negative tone comes across in my post...none intended. I really can't understand why people wouldn't want a saddle bag.

There will be no flipping, I got a full fit when I bought the bike, truth be told the frame is too big for me, but it works out fine with the stem that way.

The bag is from my hybrid, it's just barely big enough to hold the camera I took the shots with (Nikon 5700)
I'll be getting a wedge for tools etc.

Thanks for the comments, I rode it again today, even got it up to 30 mph on the flat.

I thought it was a little harsh when I test rode it, but a carbon seat post seems to have dialled that out nicely, it rides smooth.

I see a frame swap in the future, but for right now I'm happy
