College Riding (which college or area is the best?)

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't even need to look at your questions - the answer is Penn State.

Are you looking for a school that has a good race team or just general riding?

Edit: and what are you looking for in the school? What kind of degree program?

Well I am interested in getting a degree in computer science, and there is a school around here in MA that is nice for it, but just looking for a school with an overall good riding area...

I am a student at Michigan State University and love riding around campus. It's a 45 mile ride to Mason, 70 to Ann Arbor, and a ton of smaller routes around. Mapmyride will show you routes around cities, including college campuses.

Good luck, and just don't go to Ohio State.

Yeah, OSU sucks... actually i can't really give a vote for msu either GO BLUE!

Western michigan has a good mix of flat and some pretty hilly terrain as well. But yeah, you've got to go where it suits you academically mostly. Pretty much any bigger school will have a team or club that will compete at the collegiate level.

Too bad State College can be a pretty mind numbingly boring place. Granted I lived there from the time I was 6 until I moved to North Carolina for college so my perspective might be different than a students.

Too be fair, I'm in the area visiting my folks for part of my summer break and the country roads are absolutely gorgeous for riding.

colorado.
Looking for a mix of hills (mountains) and flat? The Front Range can't be beat... goes from dead flat plains to foothills to mountains in a few miles.

Boiler Up

You want computer science? There are five schools you should look at:

MIT, Georgia Tech, Cal Tech, Stanford and Purdue. I cannot speak for the other four, but the Boilermakers of Purdue has one of the pre-eminent computer science programs in the nation. And, they have a great cycling team. You get a good mix of hill and flats there.

University of Wisconsin - Madison also has good program. And Madison is consitently named the Best Biking Town in the United States.

Oh, and stay away from Ohio State. Who would want to be known as a Buckeye. What is a Buckeye, anyway?

Rice University is awesome for cycling. We have this parking lot behind the football stadium with a 1/3 mile track on it. It's amazing. Also the air is really clean, the weather is beautiful and the scenery is to die for.
