Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lansing, MI Riding?

I need to do a workout after the Crit in Lansing this weekend. Any route advice? Am I asking too much to leave downtown on bike without getting run over?

Go in any direction out of town, and you have farms, fields, and more farms.

I like Harrison Road south out of Moo U's campus (MSU). Once you get past Forest Akers Golf Course, you can find more two-laners and rollers.

The south end of the MSU campus has a lot of low traffic roads (low traffic in July, maybe not in October). Three decades ago, I was trying to ride those roads through January snowdrifts on a one-speed bike. Younger, and dumber...

For slow cruising, the heavily shaded portions of the north campus make for a nice, relaxing ride.

I would also Head south, From the MSU campus area you can head south down the roads college or hagadorn through the cities of Holt and Mason. Either of those roads are custom to having many cyclist this time of year. Very flat riding but As far as car traffic goes you should be fine. Like I said cars are custom to seeing riders on those roads.

I like riding in the UP better. Never rode by Lansing though. Kind of crappy roads in the UP but not so much traffic.
