Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

GT Carbon Headset

I recently received a new GT 2007 Carbon Series 2 frame without the headset. Does anyone know which headset it's supposed to come with? I can't seem to find a bike shop that has it in stock to actually look at it, GT's website has this "TH Sealed Angular contact with carbon spacers."

Better contact GT. There are a number of integrated headsets, different bearing angles, etc. Or go to an LBS that sells GT and see which ones are on the bikes. Doubt if GT has their own headset.

I have contacted GT and they since have sent me two wrong and different headsets. And regarding your second point of going to a LBS that sells them, I have been to numerous shops and no one has the bikes in stock.

I'm just wondering if anyone here has the bike either the GT Carbon Series 1 or 2 that they can just look at their's and let me know which one it is. Or if anyone has seen them at their local shops and let me know. I'm in dire need of a complete bike because Superweek has just started.

From typing this, "TH Sealed Angular contact with carbon spacers" into google and dogpile I came up with a multitude of information on brands that offer this type of headset. For example: https://www.fullspeedahead.com/fly.as...xid=34&pid=465 However angles are different depending on your need. One would think the spec sheet for the frame should have this information, or that the manufacturer could tell you this.

BTW, I'm also looking at purchasing a Carbon Series 2 Frame.

I received the correct headset from GT on Monday and raced it at superweekon Tuesday. So far I have ridden it for 3 days and I'm liking it quite a bit. The correct headset was the FSA ZS3.

"Cane Creek compatible Shallow Alloy cups fit into 50mm OD headtube
Very low profile designed primarily for ATB’s
Patented alignment tip for increased durability and performance
TH brand 36/45 degree Micro Angular Contact Bearings (blue seal)
7075 aluminum crown race
Laser etched FSA aluminum top cap
Stack Height* - 9.8 + 3.3 = 13.1mm
Black anodized finish
Weight - 80 grams (1 1/8")

The FSA ZS3 stack is designed primarily for mountain bike use and featues steel cups that are pressed into an oversized, yet simple design headtube. Other than diameter, a special headtube is not required for this model. The bearings used in this model are our high quality Angular Contact Bearings which offer precise steering and long life. For the customer who desires a internal type headset for their mountain bike line, this modEl is very high quality, safe and trouble free."
