Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I just added the Specialized S-works Pave SL post to my bike...VERY stiff and great road feel! It has the little zertz inserts up near the seat clamp. I have to say I believe in this technology!

Actually, that is incorrect. Thomson is one of the best seatposts available, however it is very stiff. Not good at all at absorbing vibration.

Is the S-works all carbon with the insert? or is it like the lower versions on the Allez bikes that are carbon wrapped aluminum?

Carbon fiber dampens road shock better than aluminum. House brand posts start at $35 or so on sale.

The S-Works is all carbon I believe..not wrapped. It's this one https://specialized.com/bc/SBCEqProduct.jsp?spid=25327

I had the lessor version originally on the bike....It's amazing to me what a difference it actually makes in the ride!

And good tires. Tires with higher thread count will ride nicer.

The tires that came on the bike are Michelin Flash, 28's. I've read a lot of tire threads and still am confused about what would be a good upgrade choice when these wear out.

While as a general principle of the 2 materials that may make some sense, In my experience switching from an Al post to a CF post made no difference in the ride quality.

With the amount of seat post extended in a typical application, I just don't think it makes much difference.

What PSI are you running them at? With 28s you can get a pretty plush ride. You may have the pressure to high. Look under tire pressure it's a good place to start.

Running them at the max rated 90, I'm a big guy so I was concernd about lowering the pressure and pinch flats. I could give it a go though.

Bikes: A few.

IHO a seatpost is a bad place to pursue ride quality. Lose 5PSI and check back.
