Hi all,

I love seeing all the pictures from everyones rides and would like to contribute, my question is....where do you keep the camera so it does not get damaged and in some cases you can access it while riding.

Good topic. I recently graduated to a DSLR, and sketching some ideas in my head about how to carry it up on the bars. I am thinking of some tri-bar type extension, with a tube that the lense slides down into between them, and of course some velcro type thingy to secure in place.

my right jersey pocket, with my keys, wallet, and cellphone. I just reach back and grab it when I want to take a pic...

I'm currently shooting with a Canon Powershot 550, and it takes great pics for a pocket-compact (even while moving)

This one was good enough to blow up to 8x10

Thanx guys, I have a powershot 630 so jersey pocket seems to be a good choice. Do you bring a plastic bag or anything in case of rain or just only bring the camera on the most beautiful of days?

In the Bento Box...put an arm warmer in there to cushion the cam.

I have two DSLRs and some big lenses and short of a large rack system, I can't think of any easy way to carry them. Given the current state of ``pocket cameras'' (the ones that are around the size of a business card), I'd say get one of those and pick up a waterproof camera carrying sleeve from a local photo shop. They are plastic and have nice plastic zippers with that white material on the inside that keeps the display from getting scratched. Then throw it in your bento box as mentioned, next to the health bars.

Short ride - jersey pocket. Long ride - jersey pocket in soft shell case or little zip lock baggie (just to keep it away from sweat).

I have a Canon Powershot SD800, and it fits almost perfectly in the Otterbox Zippo case:

I keep a few lens cloths in there to make it snug so there is no rattle. The Otterbox is waterproof, crushproof, ... it's really "most-things" proof. If there is a smooth stretch of road, I can take the camera out while riding and snap some shots, but you couldn't really do it all that quickly (without dropping something).

FYI, the Otterbox Zippo is about $13, but the Otterbox 1000 is exactly the same with different coloring (I didn't realize when I bought mine, or I'd have gotten the 1000), for about $11.50.

The Otterbox protects my camera from sweat, which is the biggest concern I have for the camera. I strongly recommend this solution if you have any of the Canon Powershot SD line (I had an SD600 that fit exactly like the 800, and I know the 630 fits too.)

I use the Minolta Dimage S414:



I sling it over one shoulder and my neck so it either hangs by my side, or I swing it onto my back. Just takes one hand to bring it in position, turn it on, and snap and I can do it in about 10 to 15 seconds. Even when climbing out of the saddle, it really doesn't bother me. I'm working on a way to wrap the strap around my right wrist, so I can hold it and completely work it with one hand without really having to hold the camera up. I'm getting close to perfecting it, but not quite.

I don't worry about sweat or a little rain. My camera has been run through the mill already, looks it, but still takes great pics.

I tried taking the DSLR out but it's too much bulk. So... a Powershot in a Jersey pocket inside a ziplock. Sweat doesn't go so well with electronics Or sometimes just use the crappy camera in my BB Pearl.

Just pick up one of those disposable cameras from the local pharmacy. Stick it in a back jersey pocket and pull it out when you need it. I have used mine while riding on my bike (very carefully of course). There are tons of new ultra-small, ultra-slim digitals on the market now; but if I spent a $300 on a camera, I would hate to run the risk of dropping it while biking, or damging it with a sweaty jersey, so I would go with the disposable camera option.

I just bought a water resistant camera an Olympus 700 or something. About the size of a cigarette pack, works great, 6mp, 3x zoom. Sweat/condensation has yet to kill it, after 6000 miles and 2+ years of riding.

Some of the phone cameras these days have pretty decent resolution, certainly more than good enough for web posting. So for me, it's one unit in the centre jersey pocket and always have it with me. Would consider bringing a dedicated digital camera on special rides.

I put my phone/camera in one of these attached where the spacers are on the headset. Perfect solution for me.

- as an aside, it's a shame that nashbar, which used to sell these for less than $5, no longer offers them while performance now sells the exact same product for $15...
