Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is this trainer crap?

I want a trainer for when the winter arrives. From my minimal research I have learned that fluid is better than magnetic and the best trainers are cycleops and kurt kinetic? Rather than spending 300+, is this a good deal, or is it junk? I just want something that is quiet, won't break and isn't a pain to use. Thanks in advance.

While I'm sure that trainer would work just fine, you've heard the term "you get what you pay for", right?

I have the non adjustible Travel Trac from Performance and it has lasted for years with no problems. I bought it in about 1998. This one is basically the same trainer.

Never buy a cheap fluid trainer. You've been cautioned.

If you're planning on doing a lot of spinning on it over the winter, I'll have to agree. You may want to look at a trainer with a fan. You can still get resistance with your gears. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies thus far...
When you say "a lot of spinning" how much mileage do you mean?
I would not likely be exceeding 80 miles per week. I'm know that's nothing to most, but it's where I am at right now.

That trainer is total garbage. They have basically the same one at Performance which I bought and returned one after one ride. The main flywheel was manufactured crooked and would not rest on my wheel correctly. Also, it was not smooth at all, but rather a pulsating sort of ride.

They are made by Elite, and it's basically one of their low-end fluid models without a flywheel.

Take a look at Cycleops, I just bought one used on slime-bay for $125.00. Its rugged, built well, nice set up with fan and easy bike placement.
That one you are looking at would work well for gerbils, ITS CHINESE JUNK!
