Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Craigslist Find!!!

For a while now I have been debating buying a new 10 speed shimano cassette for my Bontrager Race wheels. However, a new 10 speed cassette just never fell into my lap... until now...

Find the below craigslist listing, for a pair of Shimano WH-R550 wheels, matched to a 10 speed HG cassette, with spanking new Hutchinson tires mounted. 100 bucks....

https://houston.craigslist.org/bik/397009660.html

The bonus goodies include, skewers, and...... WHEEL BAGS!!! That's right, I didn't have to buy Mavic Limited Edition Sl's the seller just threw in his with the sale. That will likely increase my average by at least 1mph, and make my bike .5 lbs lighter. So now I have the most basic shimano wheels in the blingest of wheel bags. P-Cad be proud of me

The real kicker is the conversation I had with the seller;

Seller- Hi, are you still interested in buying the wheels
Me- Yes
Seller- Good, I was afraid I was going to have to throw them away.
Me- NO, seriously stop talking, I'm coming over right now, don't throw them away
Seller- Ok, I am going to throw away my wheel bags too, do you want them?
Me- STOP THROWING AWAY CYCLING SCHWAG!!!!

Some fool beat me to THIS. I emailed the guy when it was still at the top of the list - i.e., RIGHT AFTER it was listed on Craigslist. Still, I was apparently too late.

My best Craigslist finds:

-Advertisement for a cyclist's garage sale, picked up a pair of Speedplay Zero Ti pedals for $25. Greatest buy ever.

-Two Thule roof rack systems (one is in use, the other is hanging out in my closet until I find the time to put it back up on Craigslist) including 2 fork mount systems, 2 wheel carriers, and 8 locks for $200

-Rollers for $20

-Trunk mounted bike rack for $20

Great deals above

Here's mine:

Sidi 5.5 HT Carbon for -$25 (yes, $25 less than $0). Two transactions: Bought Sidis for $50, sold free Nikes for $75. Ca-ching.

Bought crushed Saris Bones 3 for $5. Repaired for $25, sold for $80. Ca-ching.

Sidi womens road shoes, bought for $1, sold for $40. Ca-ching.

Bought Trek kid trailer for $50, sold that afternoon for $225. Ca-ching.

...the list goes on

My wife and I are "Re-bay" hobbyists. You should see her flip boutique maternity clothes!

My best deal on craigslist...this:

$850 and it came with perfectly fine DA 8 speed brifters and Ksyrium SSC-SL's in black - both of which I changed out.
