Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Will a thomson work for me? (setback or non) *Pic inside*

Getting a new seatpost for the scott and this one is getting put on the ZX3 "race" rig. Everyone suggest thomson and it's not much heavier than others so why not. Just curious if I'll need the setback version.

Thanks for your help.

Assuming the geometry of the frames is identical, you will need the setback version.

The Masterpiece is in fact lighter and stronger than most CF posts, plus, you can clamp it for working on the bike.

condolences on the smurf vomit stains, Smurfette is a cheap drunk, but can't hold her liquor.

I don't think it's carpet. I believe it's blue astoturf...

I'd go for the zero.

A straight one would put you right at the front edge of the rails. A set back one would be ideal, though the clamp would be further forward. Your Ritchey post has about 25mm setback while a setback thomson as 16mm

Ok setback it is. Where do I find a setback one for cheap? I typically only see the zeros on ebay.

Edit: 31.6mm

7 or 10 degree? Looks like the 287 (the one I need) is 10. The longer ones say 7.

I believe the setback posts are all the same at 16mm. I just got one for my R3 off ebay for around $70 (new). Like said above, it won't be as much as a setback as you have now, so the straight one probably wouldn't work for you.

Bike-components.de has the 31.6mm 7 degree version for € 119.50, excluding a 4 euro shipment fee... I'm getting the Ritchey WCS Carbon for my CR1 though, don't really like the bent seatpost thing. Check out the seatpost angle of your new frame, as the seatpost angle of the CR1 is a little less (?) steep than others (if I recall correctly).

Assuming the electrical tape is your seat height marker, you'll need the 250mm length.

And seriously, I've never seen a carpet that blue.

And Smurfette? One village, one girl? At this point it's like throwing a hot dog down a hallway.

Should I look into another ritchey post not to worry? Either aluminum is around $60.

BUSTED! Really pissed me off when I had to make the other half of the room green.

(I'm a Boonen/Quickstep fan myself tho so it still works )

His carpet is like those TVs (panasonic I think) with ambient lighting to match the main color of the TV picture. Every cycle team made his carpet turn colors. Then that damn home depot paint commercial came on and his carpet broke trying to keep up.

Will switching to a shorter crank affect my set back on my seat? I'm using a 175 now and am putting on a 172.5 next week. Was just looking at cr1 on ebay with a non set back masterpiece and it reminded me.

Thanks

the last time i looked, which was about a year ago, Phillips was the only company making those. it's not hard to do on your own though...

and as far as Thomson posts go, just check e-bay. just the other day i missed out on a brand new Masterpiece, 27.2 x 330 with setback, that ended at only $76. talk about an absolute steal...
