Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Having trouble finding a seatpost

My wife's bike came with an FSA setback seatpost. In fact it's this exact one:

It claims "25mm setback".

The setback was required to get her positioned properly. Unfortunately, this seatpost seems to have developed a crack in it (probably from me over-tightening it) so it won't keep its position. I'd like to replace it with an alu post, but I can't find one that has the required setback. The closest I've found is the Thompson, so maybe the 16mm it has combined with the seat rails will be enough to duplicate the position. I just don't know how much fore/aft adjustment the Thompson has.

Anyone know of any other alu setback posts?

Dude like every standard seatpost is setback that much:
American Classic 28mm = https://aebike.com/page.cfm?PageID=30...ils&sku=ST2395
Ritchy WCS is 20mm so you would have to slide the seat back on the rails = https://aebike.com/page.cfm?PageID=30...ils&sku=ST3251

The Thompson actually has less than most it just looks funky.

What size post are you looking for? If the frame takes a 31.6 Cambria still has some of the Truvativ XR's with setback. One of the largest setbacks that I've found (30mm) and it's on sale.

There are a couple of seatposts that have 35mm of setback. I think the FSA K Force Lite is one. The difference isn't large, but if getting back far enough was an issue, it might help. I think Easton might make one.

Well there's a problem with that theory, and it's that if I physically measure my American Classic post, it measures around 20mm from the center of the post to the center of the clamp, whereas Jess's FSA post measures at least 40mm using the same method, so:

1) I don't know where they get the 25mm number, and

2) I think maybe different companies use different methods to determine setback.

So that American Classic you pasted with 28mm setback could actually have a lot less than her current post.

Thus the conundrum.

(btw, it's a 27.2 post)

Bikes: LeMond Maillot Jaune, Vintage Trek 520 (1985), 1976 Schwinn Voyageur 2, Miyata 1000 (1985)

The old style Easton EA-70 aluminum seatposts are very good. A lot of places still sell them. They have the silver top.

Another option is the CLB. I have one on my Trek and it has a ton of setback. Wallingfords sells them.

That bottom one looks promising. Wish it was black, but beggars can't be choosers.

See if FSA/LBS will replace it? If not, try this:

Thanks Soil, that's not a bad one.

I ended up taking Mariner's advice and ordering an old Easton EA70 (which is listed at the same 25mm setback as the current post). The price was right, so if it doesn't work, no big loss.

Well you've already noticed the difference in measurement standards. Its anoying to say the least.

If the Easton seatpost doesn't work out then as daneil linked to you can get Truvativ single clamp seatposts that will have the desired setback. They are available in 27.2 mm and they come in the XR model as pictured and a TEAM model is also available that's a little lighter.

Regards, Anthony

Yeah, at least the Easton looks like it has enough setback. Hopefully between that and the adjustment on the rails, we'll be able to get her back far enough.

Ok, on to plan B. I ordered the Easton from PricePoint, and they sent me the wrong post.

So either I try to find another place with that old Easton, and hope they send me the right one, or try something else.
