How often to change tires?
How worn do you let your tires get before replacing them? Is there an advantage in reduced flats to changing tires more often, or is it just a waste to switch before they are visibly worn out (and what constitutes "worn out" as well, I guess, to your minds)? Is it down to the threads, down to where it's square, or what?

This is a good question.
My tires are flat on top, I assume this is because I ride straight lines more than leaned over in turns. Is this a sign that they need replacing or should I just keep riding them until they start having handling issues?

Worn out is when the rubber runs down to the casing. If you're doing a double century soon and the rubber is thin enough to see (but not feel) the casing, maybe you can toss the tires anyway. If you're just doing short training rides, you should be fine if you wait until the casing is exposed in one or more spots.
When your rear tire starts to flatten out on the top, it is only half worn out.

When I can see the threads inside the tire I change them. Usually happens to the back one first, front one seems to need changing about 1/3 of the time as the back.
