Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What Magazines do you read?

I picked up a bicycling magazine last month. I liked the focus on things other than the most expensive new bike on the planet and why I need it. Articles such as what are good meals to eat for breakfast on the day of the ride are great and good for any rider no matter how much my bike costs.

What magazines do you like and what do you actually subscribe to?

Bicycling
Vintage Bike Quarterly (they changed their name but I forget what it is)
Scientific American
The Week
Outside (which has gone downhill recently)
PC Gamer

I usually subscribe to the Atlantic, but I'm not doing that right now. One of the best magazines out there.

I get VeloNews and think it is the best all around bicycle magazine...

I also get Bicycling (I think it came free with something I ordered). I keep it in the bathroom because it has short reading snippits and who doesn't want to gain more power in 15 minutes and lose 15 pounds in 2 days...

I used to get Cycle Sport which was quite slick but focuses on pro cycling. It got way to uppity about the doping issue and is quite expensive...

Used to subscribe to Asphalt until they went under.
I have subscription to RoadbikeAction since it was cheap, but
the magazine is one big U.S. Postal/Discovery/Lance/Bobke love fest
(and I Like Bobke). Reviews are marginally better than Bicycling which is
great if you want to read reviews that sound much like advertising copy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I really miss Bicycle Guide and
the old Rodale's Bicycling before it was redesigned for the MTV generation.

Hate to say it- But if you can get hold of any of them- You should look at the British Cycling magazines. I made a mistake a couple of weeks ago and bought a new magazine I had not seen before. If "Bicycling" magazine is one of your "Better" magazines- Then I pity you.
We have such a variety of magazines over here that I limit myself to two only That I buy on a regular basis.

Cycle Sport
Cycling Plus.

The SepteMber issue of Cycling plus is worth it just for the Pics of Our Victoria.

Bicycle Quarterly is the best magazine in the U.S. right now. It's geared more towards recreational and long distance cycling and not at all towards racing. (Although the editor is no slouch behind the bars. He was the first American to finish in Paris Brest Paris this year). Lots of cycling history; interesting and useful bicycling technology, not always new, but useful; and tests using the scientific method that has not been seen in a bicycling magazine in decades.
