Cinelli owners: show your bike!!

Bought a Cinelli frame to build over the winter for my son. Wanted a bike that you don't see very often, will be trying Campy this time, so Cinelli riders, post your pics.

Here's my 1995 Supercorsa, in the only color they should be, Ferrari Rosso.

I know it's not a "real" Cinelli, but I will own one of those eventually. I swear it. Still, this is my baby. I wanted a more modern group on it, so I went with Rival, as I could NOT bear to hang a lot of black plastic Campy on it. I have a C Record group, but I really like Doubletap, so please bear with the blashphemy. Heck, I'm the guy that put Dura Ace on a Pogliaghi, too.

I think I earn a few points back for going with the Delta brakes.

That Aliante is super-sweet. How do you like the Nuovo? I have considered getting one for some time, to match my classic.

samsation7 09-27-07 06:28 PM

I agree. Plastic campy looks terrible on classic ride. Here's my Nicicci, an older Italian make before they sold the company to Japan and become Nishiki.

Nice bikes!!!!

Hey how does that white Alliante ride? I love that bike. I also like the white with blue Unica they have on the cinellie site

kevinmcdade 09-27-07 09:38 PM

Nice looking Cinelli's! I built my Cinelli up to be my back up bike. I find myself riding it more than my bike that was bought to be my main road bike.

Here's mine:

The Nuovo is my most recent addition to what's starting to look like a Cinelli collection. With the first ride, it immediately became my primary bike
and one of the nicest bikes I've had the pleasure of owning.
Road behaviour, like all Cinelli's, is exemplary but returning to steel was like coming home.
Tho I have no complaints with the carbon tail aluminum Aliantes, the Nuovo is ever so slighly more direct, lively and engaging.
The Aliantes are actually a bit better damped and tho I can't be absolutely sure, probably the superior climbing/sprinting machines.
fwiw,The Aliante Carve and the Nuovo SC have identical geometry specifications (Aliante Muscle is the same except for 5 mm longer chainstays)
and with very similar componentry so comparisons have been pretty enlightening.
Maybe someday, I'll completely loose it and get a matching classic Supercorsa to complete the set.

The Zipps were not bought specifically for my Cinelli. They just found their way over to that bike. They compliment the bikes handling and ride quality very well.

And for a lower angle on that seat - ouch.

man, that is HOT!! My favourite colour by a bazillion miles! :) I tried to get one like that,
but I couldn't at the time. I got a great deal on this one, so I just settled for it.
I don't have it anymore (it was a tiny bit too small for me, and the jutting out chain-stays
bugged my "duck feet" riding style), but it was a good bike -- good value. Zonal is
a way underrated aluminium, in my opinion.

Thanks!!! I agree with you about the Zonal being underrated. The ride of my Cinelli is WONDERFUL!!!

Partially just the angle of the photo, but that was taken right after I installed it (went from black tape/saddle to the white-white above). It is quite level now. :)

I do like those -- the similar CNC seat stay joint is quite dinstinctive, albeit overkill. But those Alter stems are like mini anchors. :)

I have been pretty impressed by the Starship aluminum. Well, to be fair, it's a mixed bag. It's extremely light (for aluminum), and it has been much more durable than I expected. I don't have any complaints about the ride, even on a double century, but I'm sure the ride is harsh compared to carbon, or even some of the newer aluminum rigs (Cannondale?). And the walls are so thin, I'm always bracing myself for having to replace the frame.

when did Cinelli make the switch from steel? Is this still the same company or just a name today?, because the modern ally frames are made in Asia.

update: the company re-structured in 1997.

Not sure how much it really means but my Aluminum Cinelli does say "Made In Italy" on the decal with the frame material information.

Edit: No matter where my frame was made, I absolutely LOVE it!!! It's one bike that has been in my stable while others have come and gone. It's definitely a keeper.

Giotto started the company in Florence after the war. Cino came aboard in 1946 and Giotto tended to another business. Cinelli switch to aluminum handlebars in 1960 but they did make steel ones up to the mid-60s. Cino retired and sold the business to Antonio Columbus (Columbus tubing) in 1978. I don't know exactly when they started with the aluminum frames, but probably the late 80s like everyone else. Columbus also manufactures composite frames. They still make steel tubing and Cinelli still makes a steel SC and a steel/composite combination frame. As you noted, in 1997 they aquired 3T and changed the corporate name to Gruppo Spa.

I don't know what you mean by if it is the same company or a name? Cino is dead, so is Giotto but then again so is Mr. Coke, Levi Strauss and countless other brands. Do you have a better definition of what you mean?

Since Cinelli always was and is a boutique frame manufacturer, I believe all the frames are made in Italy. I could be wrong and would be happy to learn more about the company.

I've been thinking about getting a Nuovo SC, and I have a couple of questions about them. Some people have reported problems with paint chipping on Cinellis. Have you had any problems in this regard, or have they got the problem sorted out? Also, GVH lists the Nuovo SC on his site, but the Cinelli USA site doesn't list the Nuovo SC, just the SC. Does anyone know why the Cinelli USA site doesn't list it?
