Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fashionista wussies.

The tube stocks stay, but you will all be happy to hear that I invested $6.99 in a new 6-pack, and the new tighter elastic makes them look considerably more svelte. You won't notice them soon because between November and March they're coated in road grime and salt you trainer-bound fairies. Real men risk death from exposure for their cycling.

Correct.

Off road, I barely alter my pace in the dark. The only thing I miss (maybe it's the color of the light) is the subtle surface changes that sometimes cause extra excitement.

Sadly, my wife would go absolutely beserk with the idea of road riding at night, even lit up enough to pick up from space, so it's not gonna happen on the road bike. Get your back broken by one old lady...

OK, besides the 10k miles kudos, and also because I too embrace the Winter, your "trainer-bound fairies" comment made my day and I salute you.

Way to ride! Also, kudos on the mileage! You've ridden more miles than many people drive in a year (in fact, 10k is the standard per year expectation for warranties). Also, that many miles and you still have arms!

I'm working on reducing the size of Pcad's Mighty Guns. As much as I do owe it to the blonduathlongrls of this world to keep my sex appeal, it does nothing for me in the High Point hillclimb in early May. Of course now that you've made the comment, the BF Media Pressure will be on Pcad to keep up appearances. But my cycling comes first. I won't be satisfied until my Mom comes over for dinner, looks at me in alarm and remarks 'aren't you getting too thin??!?' Then I'll know I'm within a few pounds of a decent riding weight.

I just figuered he was talking about riding while doped up on snow since he's from LA

Big props pcad. I don't think I've ridden 10000 miles in my life. I've ridden more in my dreams lately then on my bike....

Another September, another 10K. But the year is young my little weenies, the year is young. Wussies like KP take weeks off for bongs and babes in the Fall. Pcad amps up the mileage for sheer hell of it. 110 miles on tap for tomorrow. To be sure if I were KP's age it would be bongs and babes. That of course would surely kill me, so I'll ride instead. Besides, I can't stay this fat forever. The Highpoint TT is only 7 months away. Pcad plans ahead.

Besides, I do need the extra endorphins to offset the unbelievable stress of being a Mets fan in the last week of the regular MLB season. How they went from the best team in the NL to a baseball train wreck in two weeks is hard to fathom.

Beltran just hit a big HR, so maybe not all is lost. It never gets easier. The Mets still trail 4-3. This sucks.

So if I worked for Pcad, and Pcad caught me hanging out on BF at work, would Pcad fire me?

But I would never hire you in the first place. You would fail the BF Dope Test. Like Pcad, you are a BF Dope.

The BF Dope Test is conducted during the interview with the candidate. The interviewer makes a statement that they know is blatantly false. Any self respecting BF Dope responds by saying..

'Incorrect'

and they're nailed.

How many tubes do you go through with 10k miles a year? Tires? Cables? Spokes? Jock Straps (for wearing around post ride, not under the shorts)? Do you keep an inventory?

Nomad VW is the King of the Weenies. Well, OK, since he's in Japan, that makes him the Emporer of the Weenies, but you get the picture. Actually, there is a guy in Piermont, NY who is over 65 years old (he frequents Piermont Bicycle Connection, my LBS) who rides over 20,000 miles annually. He is retired. I have a business to run.

F the business. I have a bike ride to do. I couldn't do it without my iPod Shuffle. Not a chance.

Congratulating a guy for riding miles on his bike is like congratulating a ski bum for powder days. The only thing less necessary than that is stroking Pcad's ego.
