Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wow, a pound of corned beef...

I buy a pound of roast beef for sandwiches and it last 3 - 4 days..

A pound of corned beef, no less...

Your coronary arteries closed 1/3 that day and your blood became molasses...

It is a good thing you survived the ride...

Ya, look at it that way...

Be proud you were able to eat a pound of corned beef and finish a century...

Holy *****, that's an accomplishment...

7,000 calories for a century is a bogus number. Let me guess, you have a Garmin. If you really want to know calories expended, you have to use a HRM (and a computer that actually uses it to do the calculation).

In any case, you should never exceed about 250-300 calories per hour unless you're into GI distress for fun. You just can't absorb any more than that.

I have no idea about eating corned beef on a century but I do know this:

1) Everybody who is anybody knows that the Mill Basin deli in Brooklyn has the best corned beef.
2) Corned beef is just for people too weak to eat pastrami.

Nuf said.

and if you go, watch out for the cheesecake; the piece is ridiculously huge. It must weigh 1 pound for sure.

apparently there's a deli in Jersey just off from the bridge from Manhattan - that Robert Di Neiro often goes to - apparently it's kick-butt really good food.

How much water did you drink in the 1st half before lunch and what was the temp in Ohio during this century (wasn't it quite hot this weekend in the midwest?)

You know, that's an interesting theory. I only drank close to 4 bottles (24oz) on the first half prior to gorging myself at lunch, but I drank about 9 bottles on the return trip including the lunch break...without ever having to go to the bathroom!

Hey I guess I'm helping OH move to the 14th fattest state.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but there's no way you burned anywhere near that many calories.

The rule of thumb is 40 calories per mile. A little less if you're drafting, it's flat, or you're a flyweight. A little more if you're hammering by yourself into the wind, up big hills, or you're a Clydesdale.
