Cheap and relatively light wheels.... Which one????
Hey everyone,
I am looking into buying a new pair of wheels. I'm a college student on a budget. As a good student, I did my research and came up with the following options:
Forte Titan Wheelset, $100 shipped at 1750g: www.performancebike.com (I'm sure you all heard about that one).
Maddux Aero Racing F60, $215 shipped at 1585g: www.pricepoint.com
Formula Xero XR-1, $245 shipped at 1540g: www.pricepoint.com
FYI, theres the Formual Xero Airy, $450 at 1430g (too expensive for me).
I realize you get what you pay for and before everyone tells me that 1500g/$200 wheels are going to break, I'll tell you that I weigh 100lbs, so I can basically ride almost any wheel.
Please voice your opinions and add any more options that you feel might help me out.
Thank you.

IMO, if you're going to buy crappy wheels anyway, get the cheap ones.
I'm assuming you want to replace your current wheels because they're crappy. I don't see the point spending your scarce funds in this manner.

I agree with Waterrockets. I will say I'm happy with my Forte Titans so far, but I only bought them because my Reflex rims were causing trouble and it was cheaper to buy the whole wheelset than to replace the rims and spokes on the old set.

I'm looking at getting another set of wheels as well; looking at some of the ones you are. You can probably save a couple of bucks on the XR-1s here:
https://shop.greatdealsonbikes.com/me...gory_Code=XERO
and you might want to look at the XPL-1s if you want a higher spoke count. They're lighter too, so I'm not sure how they compare durability-wise.
There's also the Easton Vista SLs:
https://www.beyondbikes.com/bb/ItemMa...L&MatrixType=1
I'm not sure about how they ride (I've not been able to find out anything about them), but if you search eBay for 'Vuelta', there seems to be a good range of hand-built wheelsets from a store in TX. I think they range from about $140 to $250 with bladed spokes. Hope this helps, and, if anyone knows anything about these wheels (or the XPL-1s!) then I'd be grateful of the advice too!

I don't know if you found wheels yet, but the Easton Vista SL's at www.beyondbikes.com are only $200plus shipping and you can use coupon code WSETZ to get a 10% discount, making them $175 plus shipping.
