Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was interested in the bag until I ended up seeing this thread. I bought a scicon bag instead at my LBS, seems to do the job.

I have one each of the small and medium bags, and basically choose which one based on whether I'm wearing pockets and which size of tube I'm going to carry with me.

But, I've had durability problems, too. One cracked like in the pic above when I had a zero-mph fall and another's zipper crapped out. Both were replaced on the spot at my LBS, and I think that both were also the medium bag.

Also, there isn't a tethered clip or mini pouch inside the flap for keeping my house keys easily accessible, so I either need to be wearing pockets or use a small shoe wallet velcroed to the handlebar (which can carry my keys, ID, debit card, and a pinch of cash).

Still, I kinda like them. They make it easy to keep my bike stuff with my bikes.

The little light is really cool, but it's just not very bright, and since I now have other lights that are much more visible, I don't know what to do with it anymore.

My bag has lasted a year now with no signs of breaking so I am pleased with durability. Don't worry about the Fizik I.C.S. bag breaking. Other bags break and wear out also.

One (possibly valid) tip:

To set the angle of the bag, load it up, loosen the hinge, clip it into the saddle, let it dangle naturally, then tighten the hinge.

The idea is to reduce stress on the plastic hinge.

I'd avoid. Had one where the zipper busted.

Me, too. But like I said, I have had other bags fail also. Just got it replaced and it works fine.

one of my teammates had one. He removed it after one ride where it repeatedly launched the bag at the riders behind him when he'd hit a bump or something.

I am on my third one in 1 year of road cycling. The fabric on the top of the bag separated from the fabric on the sides of the bag on the first one. The rivets on the second back that hold the plastic structure to the bag pulled through on the second bag(3 of 4 rivets). The third bag is on the bike and probably has a life expectancy of 1500 miles. Well designed bag except for the durability. Both failed bags were exchanged for new ones.

Me too - avoid these bags

sorry again to resurrect this thread - but these bags are awful . . . I have been slow to learn (on my third one) but the bracket breaks, the rivets stretch and then break, and the zipper is weak. When the rivets on my last one failed I lost the bag and everything in it . . .

AVOID

One of the rivets on one of my bigger bags is starting to pull, too. It's just a "medium"; I wonder if the rivets are why they don't have a "large" size.

Anyway, they're going well for now, and I genuinely like how easy it is to pull off the bike and hold while I dig into the bag. I might go back to my little Timbuk2 bag once the Fizik wears out.

Are there other non-velcro strap bag options out there? I'm currently in the process of ruining several pairs of expensive bike shorts because they rub just enough against the velcro strap on the seatpost.

Stupid question: Does the fizik ICS system work with non-ICS saddles (i.e. Selle Italia Gel Flow)?

I don't even care that the fizik has durability issues. I'd rather buy five saddlebags and keep replacing them then another pair of $180+ Assos.

. . . they tried

Don't get me wrong I love the way these things work and the way they sit behind the saddle (echo Assos damage non-issue). I am now on my 3rd bag but I am still using these because I like the function - - they are just ridiculously unreliable so you need to inspect them thoroughly every so often to avoid losing your rescue gear. I am now drilling the bracket where it attaches to the bag and supplementing the weak rivets with black zip ties to try to take some of the load off of them and prevent a catastrophic loss of the bag (again)
