Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

you're one smart newbie. If you start out with a decent ride, it will save you a lot of money and time later on trying to upgrade.

It's like marrying a hot wife and be happy with her while most people on this board start out with an ugly broad and later go through the headache of divorce. That said, upgrade to 08 record as soon as you can. Old campy is not on bar with modern Dura Ace or even 07 chorus.

I have pretty much that same frame (R3000) that I have FINALLY finished building (well almost) and look forward to starting riding soon. Same year, probably 2 bikes below the Team Rep. Also CAAD7. w00t!

Wow, how long have you been waiting to drop the "Reno Hightower" reference? Nicely done, I'm a sucker for bad movies, and that's one of the worst (best?).
