Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Steelman Bicycles?

Hi. I have the chance to pick up a Steelman road bike w/9 spd Dura Ace and it is supposed to be in good shape (I have not seen it). The frame and fork are steel. I have never heard of this maker before. Anyone else? If it is is good shape would it be worth $600 provided it fits?

Steelman frames are excellent, so that's a great deal if it's in good shape. Steelman closed his business last year, so I hear, but I am not sure why. His frames were generally steel, TIG welded with very clean welds and nice paint jobs. I considered ordering one of his custom frames at one time, but his prices kept going up and eventually they were outside my price range.

He was considered one of the top notch steel builders a couple of years ago. Then he went to marketing those glue together Deda carbon kits, then he went out of business.

I watch eBay for used bikes by builders like him. In good shape and in my size - I'd take it in a minute.
