Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Perhaps not cliche, but more like a staple, a property of the road forum:

I like the Evil Ice Princess of Doom avatar though.

I'll change it just for you!
I was going to change it a while back but too many people were getting a good laugh out of it, I figured if it helped someone through thier work day, it was all good.
but it's driving me nuts too, been there for too long and I love change too.

Ill see what I can come up with

and Im not evil... well, maybe a little...

Heck don't change it for me, me and the kids laugh our butts off at it. The best would be a shot of the crowd in front there right afterwards. I love witnessing things like that. Some of my faves I've seen are high school wrestlers who racked each other but good at the same time during a takedown, and a little violinist poking the kid next to him in the face repeatedly while he played a school concert. Love those "man I shouldn't laugh, but damn!" moments.

You've all missed the most moronic...

"I've just pulled the trigger on a [----]" or some variant involving "pulling trigger" in reference to making a purchase.

ocp = this was dumb the moment it started, has never been funny. go to weightweenies or bikefanclub and checkout dozens and dozens of $10,000+ bikes and notice the lack of posts saying "Oh this is so...". come here and it sounds ridiculous to hear someone saying "These nashbar carbon bottle cages are 'OCP' man!!!". get some perspective.

calling your bike 'she' or 'her'. ie "She's a real beauty. Took her on a 20 mile ride yesterday."

calling your bike, or yourself, a "roadie"--makes it sound like a road bike is an oddity to you, and it's something I would expect a mountain biker to say, ie "Saw some roadies on the MUP, damn those guys...", "Gonna get a roadie this summer, I figure it's worth a try". please don't say "roadie", you sound like a dip****.

using the term 'full', ie "Is the frame full carbon?", "It comes with full ultegra". sounds stupid, it's 2007 and mixed-material frames are becoming less common, as are lame carbon rear stays. likewise, wtf is a "full" gruppo? does it include hubs, a headset, a seatpost and bottom bracket? both campagnolo and shimano have these in their groups. or is it just brake levers/derailleurs/brakes/crankset? don't say "full" when there's no agreed-upon definition of "full".

I pretty much all agree with all of this.

One thing I've noticed, is that people seem increasingly resistant to doing research on their own. They could easily go to the manufacturer's website, which will answer most, if not all, questions, or just do a search, but instead they feel compelled to clutter up the forum by posting a thread that is exactly the same as one that was created maybe only days before.

"I [insert something you did today, past tense] today.

[insert something else that happened, or a one-sentence summary of the weather].

That is all."

Edit: aww, sorry guys. OP said "At one point these may have been clever and/or funny. Now they're overplayed and done-to-death."

I guess this doesn't qualify, as it was never clever and or funny. It is definitely overplayed, though.
