Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best/toughest tubes?

I've had a couple tubes flat on me because they ripped at the valve. I'm looking for some more durable tubes. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Usually even the cheapest tubes work with good tires and proper inflation. Unless you got some real cheapos or defective ones - it is all in the tire, (or rim hole) possibly even the reason for your flats.

I've never had a problem with Michelin Race Lights - good price, too.

Don't ever buy Salsa tubes...what a piece of crap!
They are already pinched before you even put them on.

I had a problem with the tube splitting at the valve while airing them up, pushing on the pump head. I started using the valve nut to hold them inplace while airing. Haven't had one split since and it's been about 7 years. A lil extra work but saves in the aggravation dept!

Cut a 1" square off an old innertube. Cut a small hole in the center of that. Slip it over the Presta valve.

That's not a bad idea. Thanks!

I've been getting my tubes from Price Point and have been very happy with them. When they are on sale, you can get 10 for less than $1.50 a tube.
